| To quote Dr. Eugene Vickery, "The Spirit of Canyon Camp may be weightless and invisible, but it is a powerful force that has moved and motivated many persons for over half a century. It did not come into being overnight. Rather, it grew and became focused over a period of several years. Since then it has developed and its influence has been felt by succeeding generations of campers and leaders." Your contribution will help perpetuate The Spirit Scholarships for future staff members. The fund was established in 1992 by staff alumni. Through the summer of 2007 there have been 70 scholarships awarded totaling $20,100.. There are now three named scholarships. The first was created in 2005 in the memory of Troy Larson. The second was created in 2006 in the memory of long time camp director Dennis Pratt. This past summer the Lee I. Binkley Spirit Scholarship was announced to honor Lee's 40 years of service to Canyon Camp. Staff members cannot apply for the scholarships! Rather, Lee and Dick talk with other senior staff to determine those staff members who are deserving of special recognition because they "unselfishly have shared their experience, time and skills to make the summer a positive experience for the scouts, scouters and staff members with whom they've worked." In short, they've shared, by personal example, The Spirit of Canyon Camp. There are six prints from pen and ink sketches signed
by artist Elaine Johnson Bethke that are only available as a thank you
for your tax deductible contribution to this fund. These prints, shown
below, depict well known Canyon Camp scenes. A shadowed border has been
added to the web graphics and is not a part of the original prints. |
